Travelling the world has afforded me the opportunity to experience many new and interesting pastimes and explore interests that may not have been possible otherwise. Since I was a boy, I have loved exploring the outdoors. With that love comes a fascination of shooting and fishing I have had since I was a child. So when, in the fall of last year I received an invitation to stay at the Lodge at Glendorn, I jumped at the opportunity especially knowing that it is a Relais & Châteaux property and Beretta and Orvis are involved in the outdoor activities. My son in-law, Kyle, and I share similar interests. When I found out about this trip, I decided who better to have with me than him. I had never heard of Glendorn, but after some quick research I discovered that not only was it a renowned idyllic getaway, but it was also located in northwestern Pennsylvania, only four short hours from my home outside of Toronto. I reminisce of the year 1964, when a 17-year-old Bart Card is spending a year at sea on The Ocean Monarch a cruise ship that sailed between Bermuda and New York for part of the year with Caribbean cruises in-between. More
My life has been filled with amazing experiences and I've had the chance to travel to some of the world's most exotic and remote locations. Last year I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the Antarctic. It was a life-changing experience. When the opportunity arose this spring to visit the Arctic, I just couldn't turn it down. I had seen penguins, now it was time to see polar bears. More
There are few places on Earth that still seem exotic and mysterious. Laos and Vietnam are two of those places for me. I received an invitation to visit Laos, Vietnam and Thailand and jumped at the opportunity. I've been to Thailand many times before, but always relish an opportunity to return. It would be my first time visiting Laos and Vietnam. Using Bangkok as a point of entry, I flew from Toronto to Chicago, Chicago to Japan and then on to Thailand. Read More..
It's been said that the sun shines on New Zealand before anywhere else since every new day in this small, remote locale is something to cherish. And take it from me, this slogan has been evident long before director Peter Jackson opened the world's eyes to the country's beauty in his Oscar-winning Lord of the Rings trilogy. Read More..

All my working life I have travelled; first while working in the hotel industry and more recently as a travel writer. I am lucky to have been able, over the years, to include my children in my travels and each of them has joined me individually, some more than once. In more recent years now that the children are all grown, I manage an annual trip with my wife but she hasn't travelled with the children individually. This year both she and our only daughter passed milestone birthdays and decided that it was time they took a vacation together on their own. Read More..
Pink Beach Club & Cottages boasts not one but two of the pink coral sand beaches for which Bermuda is famous. The island features an exquisite shade of turquoise water highlighted by the beautiful coral reefs that cast deep shadows, old fashioned hospitality and gorgeous beaches with a pink tinge. Built in 1947, before the era of large island hotels, accommodations at Pink Beach Club consist of two and three-storey cottage buildings. Tourists can rent a scooter, take a taxi, use transit or ride a bicycle to explore the island. Ferry rides are also an affordable transit mode to witness every inch of the world's oldest British colony, from Hamilton to Dockyard. Read More..
As a travel editor I love every aspect of travelling. From the moment a trip first comes together to the moment I am back home after a long adventure, I love all of it. Some people won't believe me, but preparing for an adventure is one of my favourite parts. Each trip is unique and requires a different amount of preparation and planning. Early this year I was offered the experience of a lifetime; a 10-day expedition to Antarctica aboard the Antarctic Dream. Needless to say I jumped at the opportunity. Read More..
For over 30 years, I listened to stories of India. As ADC to the Viceroy of India, Lord Linlithgow, during the late 1930s, my father-in-law had been stationed in the country. Listening to his stories and looking at his photos sparked an interest in a country famed for its vibrant colours, strong spices and immense beauty. Read More..

Get outside and enjoy the beauty and health benefits of nature. While John Muir was a conservationist, and not a doctor, during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, he was aware of nature's healing powers that have recently been studied. This pioneer of the conservation movement certainly was aware of the relaxing properties of nature and trees. Read More..

My arrival at Maurice Bishop International Airport is after sunset, and the short drive to the hotel is by moonlight. The air is warm and sweet, and after a long day of travelling, I drift off to sleep to the sound of tree frogs chirping and waves lapping somewhere in the distance. With the sunrise, the tiny island of Grenada reveals itself. All lush and green, mountains rising in the distance, and along stretch of golden sand curving its way to the city of St. George's a few miles down the beach. Read More..
